Your wardrobe isn’t really complete without a Classic Little Black Dress! A Little Black Dress (or LBD) is a fashion icon of sorts, and regardless of your age, size, and shape, it’s an item that every woman needs to have in their wardrobe.

THE HISTORY OF THE CLASSIC LITTLE BLACK DRESS

The LBD’s popularity is credited to Coco Chanel, who in 1926 created a dress that Vogue editors called the “Model T”. Named after the era’s insanely popular black Model T automobile (also, as Henry Ford said of the car, it was “available in any colour, so long as it’s black.”) Vogue predicted that it would “become sort of a uniform for all women of taste.”

Before Chanel’s influence, black was worn mainly by servants and people in mourning. Chanel’s LBD created the idea that black could be worn in an elegant and flattering way all the time.

THE VERSATILITY OF THE CLASSIC LITTLE BLACK DRESS

The Little Black Dress was initially designed mainly for nights out and special occasions. However, today, it is incredibly versatile and possible to wear anytime, day or night.

Little Black Dresses come in many shapes, silhouettes, and styles. However, for this post, I have taken one exceptionally classic Little Black Dress to demonstrate the endless possibilities it can create in your wardrobe.

The term ‘investment piece’ is common in fashion, but few items deserve more than a classic Little Black Dress. It perfectly balances elegance and effortlessness; it works for all occasions, from casual to business attire or a night out.
