My Inspiration to Start a Blog – A Book
What was my inspiration for starting a blog? In short, I came across a book, not just any book, “A New York Times bestseller!” called “GET YOUR SH*T TOGETHER” by Sarah Knight. The following is a not-so-brief summary of how a single book was all I needed – “My Inspiration to Start a Blog – A Book!”
“Get Your St*t Together” – The Book
The book will certainly not be a 5-star book for everyone, and if you don’t like profanity and are a literary perfectionist, then I can tell you right now that it’s probably not for you. But I can also tell you that this book came along at the perfect time in my life and gave me the perspective and advice I needed to hear.
If I’m honest, I’m not a self-help book type of person. I have attempted a few, and quite frankly, most are just common sense, a little self-righteous and can put me to sleep!
However, as the author states,
“This is not a traditional self-help book. It’s more of a let-me-help-you-help-yourself-help book. Also, unlike many traditional self-help authors, I am going to use the word “shit” 332 times, so please do not go on Amazon saying you were expecting sunshine and kittens and got shitstorms and shittens. My mother reads all of those reviews, and it really upsets her when people don’t “get” me.”
Once again, if you have an aversion to swearing, this book will not be for you. But I have survived a natural disaster; life got pretty chaotic for a while, so I’m ok with it and have a good laugh along the way.
The book is blindingly full of common sense. And it’s such an easy and humorous read that I devoured it. Subsequently, it was on my “you must read this” and gift list for almost a year.
Just the Inspiration I Needed.
The subtitle hooked me immediately, “How to stop worrying about what you should do so you can finish what you need to do and start doing what you want to do.” As it sounded exactly what I needed.
The reality was that I had been too busy with my never-ending to-do list for years. Thereby distracting me from my real passion and doing something about it.
What I Learnt
My biggest lesson from the book was that you need to make a to-do list (which I already had, in fact, a never-ending one). However, everything on that list wasn’t making me happy; it was a chore, in fact, lots of chores.
So, I needed to not only make a list but prioritise everything on that list. If I want to do something (like start a Blog), I need to prioritise AND schedule it, even if it’s only one hour per day.
Prioritise the list of things you must do today and do them. Thereby avoiding procrastination and creating a sense of achievement.

What I Did
I was certainly no stranger to lists and prioritising them. However, the prospect of including and scheduling time for a passion was something new for me.
I have had a lifetime passion for fashion, shopping and beautiful things. Over the years, I ruled out the possibility of actual retail space (at least in the foreseeable future). So, I scheduled an hour per day to investigate the blogging world.
At that time, I researched blogging and purchased a blogging “bundle” with all the information and more that I needed. I decided on a name, purchased & registered the domain name, signed up with a hosting site (paid my money) and registered my name with every social media account I needed.
Unfortunately, that’s where it ended approximately 360 days ago. Life got in the way, and I was yet again too busy or prioritising too many other things.
So here I am a year later, attempting to refocus on My Inspiration to Start a Blog – A Book. I’m trying to get my passion back on the list, scheduling and prioritising it.
I hope that you enjoy what I am doing so far!
